ABOUT US

PRAXIS

Praxis takes its name from a concept first described by Aristotle. In his philosophy, praxis is the process of bringing knowledge to life. It is the point where theory, action, and reflection come together to create true understanding.

At Praxis Pilates, movement is approached through that same lens. Theory guides how we study alignment and control. Action brings those ideas into the body through deliberate, intentional practice. Reflection allows each person to notice, adjust, and deepen theirconnection to movement over time. This is the cycle of refinement and why we believe that Praxis makes progress.

Every class is programmed to encourage awareness, curiosity, and consistency rather than perfection. The goal is to build strength through understanding, and to find clarity through repetition.

Our studio embodies these values through its thoughtful design. The space offers a sensory experience through its artfully curated warm tones and textures that inspire an invigorating yet grounding feeling. Praxis is a place to study the relationship between mind, body, and spirit and to turn practice itself into a way of living with more presence.

PILATES

Pilates is a system of movement developed by Joseph Pilates in the early twentieth century. Originally called Contrology, his method was built on the belief that physical and mental health are deeply connected, and that mindful movement can restore balance to the entire body.

At Praxis, we study this work in its original form and through the teachings of those who have carried it forward. The method continues to evolve through generations of teachers who refine, question, and expand upon its foundation. This living lineage is what gives Pilates its depth and longevity.

Our approach honors the roots of Contrology while embracing contemporary understanding of anatomy, somatic awareness, and functional movement. In each class you can expect to fine-tune your motor control, build mental and physical stamina, and use breath as a pathway to strength and integration.

THE FOUNDER

Sarah Popkowski approaches Pilates as both a study and a form of creative expression. Praxis Pilates is her brainchild, born from years of fascination, discipline, and deep love for this work. She created the studio to be a space where movement is treated as both an art and a science, and where each class is an opportunity to explore movement with an open mind. Pilates, for Sarah, is not just a practice but a way to translate thought into motion. Praxis is the realization of her passion for helping others experience that same connection.

She is comprehensively certified through the National Pilates Certification Program and completed over 600 hours of training at Power Pilates in New York City. With five years of teaching experience, Sarah prioritizes continual growth and learning. She studies regularly with Jerome Weinberg, a second-generation teacher who trained under Romana Kryzanowska, and through this mentorship she is shaping her own path as a third-generation teacher.

Her teaching emphasizes precision, awareness, and mindful engagement, offering each student a practice that honors the classical foundations of Pilates while inviting individual interpretation and discovery.
